London-based documentary film company Dogwoof will distribute Hanging by a Wire in UK cinemas this summer. From award-winning Pakistani filmmaker, Mohammed Ali Naqvi (Netflix’s Turning Point, BBC’s The Accused: Damned or Devoted?), who has spent more than 20 years telling stories from South Asia, and produced by Naqvi and Bilal Sami, the Sundance-selected documentary recounts the remarkable true story of the 2023 cable car rescue in Pakistan's remote Himalayan foothills that captured global attention and united an entire community in an extraordinary race against time. The gripping documentary premiered on opening day at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, where it played to sold-out crowds and screened in competition for the Grand Jury Prize. Produced by award-winning Mindhouse, EverWonder Studio, Universal Pictures Content Group and 64th Street Media, the film will open in UK cinemas on Friday 28 August 2026.

Hanging by a Wire recounts the true story of a routine school commute that turned terrifying when a makeshift cable car's wire snapped, leaving eight passengers, including six schoolboys, suspended hundreds of feet above a ravine in the remote foothills of the Pakistani Himalayas. With the clock ticking before the remaining cable was expected to fail, an unlikely band of local rescuers raced against time to bring them home safely. More than a survival story, Hanging by a Wire is a powerful portrait of courage, resilience and collective humanity, highlighting the strength of a remote Pakistani community that came together against impossible odds.

Mohammed Ali Naqvi, Director, Producer, and Co-writer, "This film is a tribute to the ordinary people who became extraordinary when it mattered most. To have Dogwoof bring Hanging by a Wire to UK cinemas means audiences will experience it the way we intended—together, in the dark, holding their breath as a real-life disaster thriller unfolds through the voices and footage of the people who lived it."

Oli Harbottle, Chief Content Officer for Dogwoof, “We are delighted to bring Hanging by a Wire to UK audiences this summer. We look forward to introducing this powerful human story of survival and remarkable heroism to audiences all across the UK.”

Arron Fellows, Creative Director and Co-founder Mindhouse, "We're incredibly excited to partner with Dogwoof on what will be Mindhouse's first theatrical release. It’s been brilliant to collaborate with 64th Street Media on Hanging By A Wire - a documentary with the scale and drama that truly deserves the big screen treatment. We look forward to developing more projects that have cinematic potential."

The North American theatrical rights for Hanging By A Wire have been acquired by AB2 Media Group and its theatrical releasing division Abramorama. The film will premiere at the Quad Cinema in New York City on 28th August and will expand to theaters across North America ahead of its streaming debut in the 4th Quarter of 2026.

Batwara 1947 continues to cement its place as one of the most anticipated films of the year. After generating widespread excitement with its motion poster, character posters, and first teaser, the makers have now unveiled a gripping second teaser that offers a deeper, more emotionally charged glimpse into the film's powerful narrative.

Set against the backdrop of the Partition of India in 1947, the latest teaser captures the unimaginable fear, loss, and displacement experienced by millions as history unfolded. Through haunting visuals, impactful dialogues, and an emotionally stirring background score, the teaser paints a poignant portrait of a nation torn apart, while celebrating the resilience and humanity that endured even in its darkest hour.

At the heart of the teaser is Sunny Deol, whose commanding screen presence embodies unwavering courage in the face of unimaginable adversity. As violence and chaos consume the land, his character emerges as a beacon of hope, choosing compassion over hatred and courage over fear. Powerful glimpses of Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, Karan Deol, and the ensemble cast further hint at an emotionally layered story driven by unforgettable performances

The newly revealed poster is rich in symbolism. At its centre is an idol of Lord Krishna, illuminated by the warm glow of a diya, with the division of India and Pakistan forming the backdrop. The image is accompanied by the striking line: “When the world chose sides, he chose courage.”

Together, the visual and the line establish the film’s central emotional conflict: a journey through a fractured world, where humanity, conscience and the pursuit of what is right are put to the test. The poster signals a story that goes beyond history, exploring the personal cost of conflict and the strength required to hold on to one’s values in moments of uncertainty.

The release date holds particular significance. Arriving on the eve of Independence Day, Batwara 1947 invites audiences to reflect on the human stories shaped by Partition—those who were forced to leave their homes, rebuild their lives and navigate a time of profound political and social change.

Dubbed a supernatural horror, Obsession follows Bear (Michael Johnston) a music store employee, who is crushing hard on his colleague and childhood friend Nikki (Inde Navarrette). Lacking the courage to ask her out, he makes what proved to be a deadly wish on the novelty toy One Wish Willow. The movie follows their relationship as he seeks to face the consequences of what he chose.

Review

The film does an excellent job at creating suspense. Whilst watching the movie you will find yourself attempting to predict what will happen, will there be a jump scare. In this movie we see Bear wanting Nikki to love him more than anyone in the world. Fortunately, and well unfortunately for him he gets his wish. Nikki begins to emulate those around them who she may fear Bear loves and ultimately goes on to hurt those who get in her way.

If you really want to know what this movie is, some may say it’s a film about unhealthy attachments, or extremely toxic relationships. These are both true to an extent. What this review wants to focus on is accountability. While the movie centres around you know obsession, the story at times puts the blame at well most of the characters at different points.

When we look at the character of Bear, you may argue the events that occurred are well because of him because they are. If we are playing Devil’s advocate, we say that he didn’t know his wish would come true. Maybe you’ll say he would not be able to predict that it would come through in that way. Theres no denying that every opportunity which occurred that would’ve allowed him to give Nikki her autonomy back he avoided. He became so desperate for her love he did not think about what it would cost Nikki to give it.

Abhishek Nama’s most ambitious project, Nagabandham, is gearing up for a grand theatrical release on July 3rd, with Overseas Release by Zee Studios.

With exactly two weeks to go, the team has intensified its Pan-India promotional campaign, building massive anticipation for this epic mythological adventure.

The much-awaited theatrical trailer of the Virat Karrna starrer has been unveiled, offering a captivating glimpse into the film’s expansive universe.

The trailer opens at the sacred Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, where a priest reveals that the revered Brahma Kamalam is far more than a golden lotus. Despite centuries of attempts by invaders and treasure hunters, the divine artifact has never been stolen.

When a powerful evil force seeks to possess it for unimaginable powers, Lord Shiva rises and joins forces with the Naga Sadhus to protect it. The trailer culminates with the revelation of the mystical Nagabandham guarding the temple, setting the stage for an epic battle between divine power and evil.

Abhishek Nama’s extensive research into Indian mythology, history, and temple lore is evident throughout the trailer. Rich with intriguing details and goosebump-inducing moments, it hints at a narrative spanning multiple timelines while seamlessly blending mythology, history, mystery, and adventure.

Mounted on a truly grand scale, Nagabandham impresses with its visual richness and immersive world-building. Production designer Ashok Kumar has created massive and intricately detailed sets, with the recreation of the Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple and its majestic deity standing out as a major highlight.

Cinematographer Soundar Rajan S elevates the narrative with breathtaking visuals that beautifully capture the film’s spiritual essence and larger-than-life scale. Complementing the visuals is the powerful score by music directors Junaid Khan and Abhe, whose background music amplifies both the devotional intensity and emotional depth of the story.

The action sequences leave a lasting impact, while producers Kishore Annapureddy and Nishitha Nagireddy of NIK Studios deserve special credit for backing such a massive project with uncompromising production values. The VFX work, in particular, appears world-class.

Leading the film is Virat Karrna, who showcases remarkable screen presence and charisma. The trailer hints at a dual-layered role, portraying both an ordinary man and Lord Shiva, with his physical transformation and dedication evident throughout.

The trailer also offers glimpses of several key supporting characters, hinting at a rich ensemble cast that will play crucial roles in the story.

Overall, the trailer promises Nagabandham as a visually spectacular mythological adventure rooted in ancient legends, hidden treasures, and divine mysteries.

Aamir Khan Productions’ upcoming film Ek Din continues to build excitement among audiences, with its music offering a refreshing glimpse into its heartfelt narrative. Following the success of its previously released tracks, the makers have now unveiled Konichiwa—a breezy yet emotionally layered number that adds a new dimension to the film’s evolving love story. Konichiwa brings together light-hearted, visually vibrant moments with an undercurrent of quiet longing. While the song captures candid, almost playful interactions between Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi, it also subtly reflects the emotional distance between them. Junaid’s character appears introspective and reserved, his unspoken feelings contrasting with Sai Pallavi’s effortless charm and free-spirited energy, lending the track a poignant, one-sided romantic tension. Set against striking, travel-inspired backdrops, the song blends warmth with a sense of emotional restraint, making it both engaging and deeply relatable. This duality—of joy on the surface and yearning beneath—adds depth to the narrative, offering audiences a more nuanced glimpse into the characters’ journey. Ek Din reunites Aamir Khan with filmmaker Mansoor Khan after a significant hiatus, reviving one of Hindi cinema’s most cherished creative partnerships.

Directed by the masterful Ehteshamuddin (Superstar, Udaari, Sadqay Tumhare) and penned by

visionary writer, Mustafa Afridi, the film is produced by Momina Duraid (Parwaaz Hai Junoon, Superstar, Sadqay Tumhare) at MD Productions; Bilal Ashraf; and Ehteshamuddin at Behive Transmedia. KHAN TUMHARA is a riveting blend of high-octane action, heartfelt romance and raw emotion. At its core is Yusuf Khan, a complex hero entangled in the brutal pull of power, love and vengeance.

Khan Tumhara was shot using multiple cameras and techniques to capture the very essence of up-close action, with special attention paid to every stage of production. The action team led by

Nick Khan and Hussain Abdullah, known for their work on projects like Skyfall and Marvel

Eternals, was flown into Pakistan to film the action sequences. The preparation was grueling for

the lead actors. This dedication was exemplified by Maya's consistency, hardwork and dedication and Bilal’s unbreakable resilience, who pushed through multiple injuries to complete filming. The results of this commitment are visible on screen, as no body doubles were used for Bilal. Audiences will see him fighting and performing all of his own stunts in every action sequence. Each scene was then crafted meticulously and took approximately 70 days to shoot - a first for Pakistani cinema. This international team also trained the local crew for several months, not to emulate Hollywood, but to develop a unique cinematic language that was raw and unforgiving. Furthermore, the visual effects team, led by Haider at Softmatrix, worked endlessly to deliver world-class post-production. Every frame reflects meticulous craftsmanship; technical precision; and international production standards, resulting in visuals that are nothing short of breathtaking.

Director, Ehteshamuddin, says, "For years, Pakistani cinema has flirted with action but we have never truly let it bleed. KHAN TUMHARA is our answer to that hesitation. Yusuf Khan is not a hero you cheer for from a safe distance; he is the man who drags you into the dust with him where love is a wound; power is a poison; and vengeance is the only prayer left. This is our story, told with our sweat; our scars; our stubborn refusal to look away."

Actor and producer, Bilal Ashraf, says, "This was more than a film; it was a lifetime education in the craft, paid for with blood, sweat and tears. It has become the benchmark against which I'll measure every project I ever do from hereon. This journey is dedicated to my late mother and sister, and I am forever thankful to everyone who has been part of this project."

Producer, Momina Duraid, says, "KHAN TUMHARA has something for everyone. A mix of action, romance and comedy. It offers full family entertainment for all age groups."

Actor, Maya Ali, says, “Some projects truly stay close to your heart. KHAN TUMHARA is one of them. From planning to pack-up, I had the privilege of witnessing this journey up close. It’s been an honour working with the finest director and actor, Ehtesham Bhai, and the amazing Bilal Ashraf - a brilliant actor; a wonderful human being; and now an exceptional producer. I am incredibly proud to be part of this film and can’t wait for everyone to experience the action and emotion of KHAN TUMHARA this Eid ul Adha."

Adding another layer of excitement is the film’s soundtrack - a bold mix of Urdu, Punjabi and Pushto songs catering to a wider audience. This fusion is set to captivate audiences and dominate playlists.

KHAN TUMHARA is slated to release in May 2026.

1. Devdas (2002)

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas isn’t just a film, it’s an outburst of love, ego, and self-destruction. The story follows Devdas who returns from London, still in love with his childhood sweetheart Paro, but his pride and society’s expectations tear them apart. As Paro is married off, Dev spirals into alcoholism and finds refuge in Chandramukhi, a courtesan who sees the pain behind his bravado. Yet, his heart remains chained to a love that’s long gone. Their unfinished love story leading to Dev dying outside Paro’s gates has stayed with audience decades later, marking it as cinema at its most devastating.

2. Rockstar (2011)

Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar is a love story wrapped in flames, both artistic and emotional. Janardhan, a naïve boy dreaming of becoming a rock legend, is told that real pain fuels great music. He finds that pain in Heer, a woman he wasn’t supposed to fall in love with. Their bond is electric, but life and illness pull them apart just as they truly find each other. Ranbir Kapoor delivers a career-defining performance as a man whose art blossoms through heartbreak, while the haunting score by A.R. Rahman immortalizes his agony. The film ends not with resolution, but with raw, aching absence.

3. Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003)

At its heart, Karan Johar’s Kal Ho Naa Ho is about silent sacrifice in the face of inevitable loss. Aman, a terminally ill man, hides his love for Naina and instead brings her closer to Rohit, her best friend, believing she deserves a future he can’t give her. The film balanced joy and heartbreak masterfully, and SRK’s performance turned what could’ve been a melodrama into one of Bollywood’s most touching goodbyes.

4. Raanjhanaa (2013)

Aanand L Rai’s Raanjhanaa explores love that is fierce, messy and ultimately tragic. Kundan, a small-town boy, is hopelessly in love with Zoya from childhood but she loves someone else. His devotion turns obsessive, and when tragedy strikes, Kundan finds himself caught in a web of political deceit, guilt, and unrequited love. Despite all the pain, he never stops loving her even as it destroys him. Dhanush’s raw, vulnerable performance struck a nerve, especially in the film’s final moments, where love remains unanswered, but never denied.

5. Aashiqui 2 (2013)

Mohit Suri’s Aashiqui 2 is a heartbreaking exploration of love, fame, and the weight of personal demons. Rahul, a once-successful singer battling addiction, discovers Aarohi’s talent and helps her rise. As she flourishes, he crumbles under the pressure of his past and insecurities. Refusing to drag her down with him, Rahul makes the ultimate sacrifice, walking into the ocean so she can live her dreams without his shadow. moving family drama that explores love, second chances, and redemption. The acclaimed actress steps back into the
spotlight with a role that promises to connect with audiences across generations. In Mehar, she plays Simi, a woman whose
journey through marriage, motherhood, and unexpected challenges highlights both vulnerability and inner strength.
Ahead of the film’s global release on September 5, the great British talent opens up about what drew her to the project,
her favourite moments on set, and why Mehar is a story that speaks to everyone. She also spoke about working with her
cricket icon husband Harbhajan Singh.

What did you like about Mehar?
The beautiful storyline attracted me to this film. It's something that hasn’t been seen in Punjabi cinema. It's an
emotional, family driven story, that binds all the characters together. Every relationship, including the husband, wife,
father, son, mother, uncle and friends has an important part to play. I think that kind of relatable family friendly
entertainment hasn’t come in a long time. There's also a great 90s touch to this film. It also has brilliant music and plenty
of emotions.
Tell us about the character you play?
My character Simi is a very simple girl. What I really love about this character is her transition from a young girl to a
married woman and devoted mother. She faces all the struggles with her husband and then has unexpected challenges. This is a
character women of different ages will really relate to. She has a softness, but also an inner strength. For her,
everything is about family, and that's something I really connected with.

Tell us about the Mehar story?
I can't give too much away but I will say that the story is
very emotional film, and my character has been a joy to play. She's today's kind of girl and will do anything for love,
including sacrifices and compromises. It’s a cultural story connected to Punjab, but very universal. It’s a story about
hope, second chances and not giving up. It has something for all ages and many layers.

What is your favourite moment in the movie?
Without giving too much away, my favourite part of Mehar is the breaking point scene - where there is a face-off between
my character and her husband, played by Raj (Kundra). It was something so different from who I am, so showing that much anger was a challenge. It’s something I don't usually show in real life, so it really took me out of my comfort zone. After that scene, the whole set applauded me. That was a favourite memory because then, you know, you've done it right.

Who are you hoping connects with this film?
This is a story that will cater for all ages, from young to older audiences. Whether it’s the relatable characters, universal emotions, commercial music and just showing beautiful parts of the Punjab, it will strike a chord with all ages. Mehar also has great life lessons, so audiences will
take something away after it ends.
What was it like stepping back in front of the camera?
It's always great stepping back in front of the camera. This is my second film after marriage. I have a Hindi film releasing, which we had shot a year and a half ago. But Mehar has now become my comeback film. So, it's a joy always and what you love most as an actor. It was an overwhelming and blessing feeling being in front of the camera. I couldn’t wait to be back on set each day.
What inspires you?
Different people at different points have inspired me. Seeing women multitasking and balancing life, work, their kids and
family is very inspirational. It's great when women can do that, and today we have that opportunity. Before you were written off after marriage and motherhood, but that has changed thankfully. Seeing women working and fulfilling their
dreams is really inspiring. And it's nice to be in that position today. Seeing my daughter, so proud that I'm living
my dream, making movies, and so happy, also inspires me to do better. My mother is my first, foremost inspiration in life. Seeing how she's balanced life with her businesses and raising three children makes me want to do better.

Can you see yourself acting in a film with your husband, cricket icon Harbhajan Singh?
Well, I have already shared some screen space in a movie with him, where I got him to play a special appearance in Second
Hand Husband, where I end up with him. I mean, let's see when that opportunity comes. We're working together on (TV show)
Who's The Boss, which has been so much fun, and something we both have enjoyed. It's my first production venture, so
putting this together has been dream. There's more seasons and episodes to come, which everyone will definitely enjoy.
You must be happy with how well Punjabi cinema has been doing? One thing you get very proud of, especially being a Punjabi, is seeing the industry grow so vastly. Regional cinema across India has been doing well and Punjabi films are very much part of that, with great successes. It's fantastic to see the growth of the industry and be a part of it. This is now my second film in Punjabi after Lock and there will hopefully be many more. It's fantastic to see great directors, producers, actors, writers, musicians, and crew creating such great
films.
Many Punjabi films are doing better than Bollywood…
Yes, if you see that a lot of Hindi films are not doing as well. People are not actually going to theatres to watch them,
whereas Punjabi films are pulling in audiences in cinemas globally. I think that's something that we should really be proud of –people actually going to theatres and enjoying the films, rather than waiting for it to be on the streaming platforms.

Why should we all watch Mehar?
Everyone should watch Mehar because you're definitely going to see a cinematic film full entertainment made for the big
screen. It is a full package and one of those films that people will enjoy in the theatre with the kind of scale it
has. From the visuals to the background score, songs, and everything it's been made on a very large scale for theatres.

After a long time, we're getting to see an emotional family film that will appeal to all ages. Regardless of how the film
does, I think it’s a winning blockbuster in our hearts, because the team has been fantastic and done such a great job.
Please support our Punjabi film industry, so we can carry on making good content and great films. That inspires us as
creatives and makes us want to bring even greater movies to theatres.
Mehar is in cinemas on September 5
